Tina Skakun

Student Services - Apple School Facilitator / SST Coordinator

About Me

My name is Tina Skakun and I have been working in Northern Lights School Division for the last 14 years.  I have my Bachelor in Education with a specialty in Inclusive Education, as well as a diploma in Community Rehabilitation Services.  I was born and raised in Lac La Biche, and feel truly blessed to live in such a wonderful community.

At Vera M. Welsh, I have taught our past Resource Room program, and have been the Inclusive Education Coordinator for the last 5 years.  I have always enjoyed working with all students, and have a passion for working with children who have special needs.  I also have taken an active role in organizing and maintaining our Outdoor Classroom space, giving students the opportunities to grow and tend garden beds, the trees in our outdoor classroom, and harvesting in the fall the vegetables that they have grown. I have also taken an active role in providing opportunities for students and staff to access Healthy Living Activities at our school.

This year, I have taken on a new role within Vera M Welsh., I am currently working as the Inclusive Education Coordinator 50% of the time, and am working as a School Health Facilitator for the other 50% of my time. As the School Health Facilitator, I will be working with parents, school staff and community members to develop a school action plan to meet our health and wellness needs of our school using the Comprehensive School Health Model. I look forward to working with the students of Vera M Welsh, to assist in creating healthy, physcially active, happy children.

Outside of school, I am an avid runner, and really enjoy being physically active.  I also have a passion for curling, and have been actively involved in the Lac La Biche Curling club for the last 4 years as an executive member and junior curling coach.

I look forward to meeting with parents and spreading the word about the APPLE School program at Vera M Welsh Elementary School.
